Matomo offers a broad website-analytics platform with cloud and on-premise options. Plausible emphasizes a compact reporting experience, with a hosted service and a separate community self-hosted edition. Both can be considered when moving away from a default advertising-centered analytics setup.
What needs closer examination
Investigate Matomo when detailed reports, configurable collection or extension options matter. Investigate Plausible when a small set of traffic and goal reports could answer the business questions. Neither choice removes the need to define events and verify data quality.
Count operational work
Self-hosting means managing updates, capacity, backups and access. Hosted plans shift that work to the provider but bring traffic limits and contractual terms. Compare the actual edition rather than assigning one price to the brand.

- Check whether each decision can be answered with the proposed events.
- Review retention, export, hosting location and privacy configuration.
- Estimate traffic and maintenance costs for a normal month and a peak month.
